Our Story

Discover Our Journey So Far

Leaders in Community (LiC) is a registered, youth-led charity that was founded in 2006 by a group of young people who wanted to have a say in the way local infrastructure was provided; overcome the barriers to progression they and their peers were facing; and experience the satisfaction of bringing about positive change for the benefit of themselves and their communities.

We’re an award winning dynamic and impactful London-based organisation dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and communities in need. Through our Youth Leadership and Youth Social Action initiatives, we strive to provide local young people with training to develop their personal resilience and overcome barriers to progression and equip local young people with the skills and opportunities to speak out about community issues, and challenge inequalities.

LiC is still run by young people, for young people. We have decision-makers on our Board and staff team who are aged under 30 years old, many of whom either have, work, or have grown up in Tower Hamlets. Around 90% of our committee members are aged 16-30. Many of whom have successfully completed our leadership programme, volunteered with us or have been a beneficiary on one of our successful programmes. In many cases these responsibilities are in addition to their full time jobs!

Our Vision

We inspire and empower local young people to be active and vocal contributors to the social, economic and cultural wellbeing of their community.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide local young people with training to develop their personal resilience and overcome barriers to progression. We want to equip them with the skills and opportunities to speak out about community issues, and challenge inequalities.
